HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY THROUGH PFAS-FREE COATINGS
Do you also have to deal with lost production time due to sticky products? It is a problem faced by many companies in the food industry. Read on to find out how we can help you increase production time.
Food processing often involves conveying and handling viscous or sticky products and substances. Residues from these products can thereby stick to everything it comes into contact with. Examples include slide plates, guide strips, mixers, hoppers, trays and sealing plates. This can interfere with the production process.
Cleaning the installations and removing residues is also a difficult job, and it’s better not to use chemical cleaning agents – because of food production. In the process, non-productive hours can therefore also add up considerably.
EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS
When it comes to metal components with which the sticky substances come into contact, it is increasingly often decided to have, for instance, a PTFE coating with good non-stick properties applied. Because the product then doesn’t stick or sticks less and less residue remains, the production process will run better and less (frequent) cleaning is required. The result is a significant improvement in productivity and tool life.
Kersten has more than 50 years’ experience in applying these coatings and we would be happy to advise you on the possibilities within your production.
PFAS OR NOT?
But what about the use of PFAS in coatings? PFAS includes a list of more than 9,000 chemical compounds, which are or could be harmful to a greater or lesser extent. At the international government level, options to restrict the use of the harmful substances are currently being examined. There are currently no restrictions, but it seems that they are coming. This is already creating an increasing demand for PFAS-free coatings.
PFAS-FREE ALTERNATIVE
Following current developments, Kersten can now offer a PFAS-free coating as an alternative to the often PFAS-containing PTFE coatings. Apart from excellent non-stick properties, this coating also has high hardness, making it very scratch and wear-resistant.
